HITO offer unit standards specifically designed for secondary school students. Students gain credits and a real practical understanding of these industries to help them make informed choices about their future.
Gateway Benefits
Gateway Programmes
Work-based programmes involve spending time in a salon, clinic or barbershop where students will learn practical skills to support the theory workbooks.

Frequently Asked Questions
Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships
Gateway students often go on to find successful employment as an apprentice.
If your student has enjoyed their Gateway programme, an apprenticeship could be their next step. Students can start an apprenticeship straight from school, or any time during the school year, from the age of 16.
Apprentices are employed and paid by the business for which they work, earning a salary while they learn. Apprentices train with a qualified trainer, and HITO supports the apprentice and the trainer throughout the qualification.
